There is zero scientific evidence that anything will happen, but there are many things that threaten the very existence of mankind. The probable threats are an asteroid strike, geomagnetic revearsal, flu pandemic or even a nuclear war just to mention afew.
All these assumptions stem from the fact that the long count calendar of the Ancient Mayans ends on the 21st of December 2012.
